SSL Certificates

Give your users peace of mind by authenticating your website to enable an encrypted connection.

What are SSL Certificates?

SSL certificates are digital certificates that authenticate a website’s identity and enable an encrypted connection. SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer, a security protocol that creates an encrypted link between a web server and a web browser.

This link ensures that all data passed between the web server and the browser remains private and secure.

SSL certificates are used to secure credit card transactions, data transfer, and logins, and more recently have become the norm when securing browsing of social media sites.

Why do I need an SSL Certificate?

SSL certificates are good for organisations because they provide several benefits, such as:
SSL certificates are required for any website or product that collects, transmits, or processes sensitive data from users, such as:
  • Login credentials
If your website or product requires users to enter a username and password to access their accounts, you need an SSL certificate to protect their login information from hackers or eavesdroppers.

  • Payment information
If your website or product accepts online payments from users, such as credit cards, debit cards, PayPal, or other payment methods, you need an SSL certificate to secure the payment transactions and comply with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).
  • Personal information
If your website or product collects any personal information from users, such as their name, address, email, phone number, date of birth, social security number, or health records, you need an SSL certificate to safeguard their privacy and comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

  • Proprietary information
If your website or product handles any proprietary information from users, such as their business plans, trade secrets, intellectual property, or legal documents, you need an SSL certificate to prevent unauthorised access or disclosure of their confidential data.

What types of SSL Certificates are available?

There are three main types of SSL certificates based on their validation levels:

How much do SSL Certificates cost?

  • Domain Validated (DV) Certificates
    From £20 per year

  • Organization Validated (OV) Certificates
    From £60 per year

  • Extended Validation (EV) SSL certificates
    From £70 per year
